Job Overview:
The Payment Poster is responsible for accurately recording and reconciling all insurance and patient payments for a medical clinic. This role requires a strong medical billing background to correctly interpret EOBs/ERAs and ensure all payments are applied accurately to patient accounts in compliance with healthcare reimbursement standards.
Key Responsibilities:
● Post insurance payments (ERAs, EOBs, EFTs, and checks) into the clinic’s Practice Management System (PMS)
● Post patient payments (co-pays, deductibles, coinsurance)
● Accurately match payments to:
○ correct patient accounts
○ correct medical claims
○ correct service lines
● Apply contractual adjustments and write-offs based on payer agreements
● Reconcile posted payments against bank deposits and remittance reports
● Identify and flag:
○ underpayments
○ overpayments
○ missing or unmatched payments
● Maintain clear documentation of payment activity for audit and compliance purposes
● Collaborate with the AR / Billing team on discrepancies requiring insurance follow-up
Required Qualifications:
● 3–4 years of experience in medical payment posting or healthcare revenue cycle roles
● Prior experience working in a medical clinic or healthcare setting
● Strong understanding of EOBs, ERAs, payer remittances, and reimbursement structures
● Familiarity with medical billing software / PMS
● Knowledge of common insurance terms (co-pay, deductible, coinsurance, contractual adjustment)
● High attention to detail and strong reconciliation skills
Preferred Skills:
● Experience working with multiple insurance payers (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid)
● Strong ability to interpret complex EOBs and ERA files
● Familiarity with insurance contractual rates and fee schedules
● Experience identifying system posting errors vs payer issues
● Strong reconciliation skills between PMS, bank deposits, and remittance reports
● Comfortable working with high-volume payment posting
● Excellent attention to detail with the ability to spot inconsistencies quickly
● Ability to work independently while coordinating with AR/Billing teams
● Prior experience in a busy outpatient medical clinic environment
